St. Eusignius - Martyr
Born - 252
Died - 362

Statue created - c.1667-1668
The statue was installed between May 1667 and July1668

Sculptor - Giovanni maria De Rossi
He was paid from August 1667 to November 1668 for eight statues.

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
Restoration in 1794 mentions work on the right hand and arm, which are now missing.

The saint's legend describes him as over one hundred years old, and a soldier for sixty.  He was supposedly martyred at Antioch in Syria in the reign of Julian the Apostate after refusing to offer pagan sacrifice.  Because of inconsistencies in the historical record he was removed from the Roman Martyrology 2001.
