St. Justin - Martyr
Born - c.100
Died - 165

Feastday - 1 June

Statue created - c.1665-1667
Part of a group of 24 installed from September 1662 to March 1667

Sculptor - Lazzaro Morelli
Attribution to Morelli seems certain because of similarities in drapery with nearby St Agnes (43)

Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
The saint is covered with a tunic that descends from the shoulder and surrounds the sides.  Behind him, at his feet, is a plumed helmet and a tree trunk.

St Justin Martyr was a Christian apologist, who converted c.130, taught in Asia Minor and Rome, where he suffered martyrdom. Two apologies and a dialogue survive of his many writings.
